How to Get BitLocker Recovery Key in Windows? It is a widely asked question in the Microsoft forum. This article will provide two solutions to get BitLocker recovery key from BitLocker encrypted drive in Windows 7/8/10 when BitLocker encrypted drive can be unlocked.

Solution 1: Get BitLocker recovery key with Control Panel

1. Double click BitLocker encrypted drive in My Computer or This PC and then enter the password to unlock BitLocker encrypted drive.

2. After unlocking BitLocker encrypted drive, open Control Panel and then click BitLocker Drive Encryption option.

3. Locate the corresponding BitLocker encrypted drive and click "Back up your recovery key" to export BitLocker recovery key.

Solution 2: Get BitLocker recovery key from Command Prompt (CMD)

1. Double click BitLocker encrypted drive in My Computer or This PC and then enter the password to unlock BitLocker encrypted drive.

2. Open an Administrative Command Prompt.

3. Type the command: manage-bde -protectors X: -get (X is drive letter of BitLocker encrypted drive), manage-bde will get BitLocker recovery key from specific BitLocker encrypted drive.

Note: If you can't find the recovery key using the above methods, unfortunately, without it, you won't be able to unlock the device. Microsoft does not have a way to bypass the BitLocker recovery key for security reasons. You may need to reset the device which will erase all data or seek help from the device's manufacturer or IT support if it's a work or school device.
