How to fix/access Windows 7 RAW partition and recover lost data?

I cannot access RAW partition in Windows 7, I receive the error message when accessing RAW partition: "The disk in drive (X) is not formatted. Do you want to format it now?".

Attempting to run chkdsk in an attempt to fix RAW partition in Windows 7 will give an error also:
"The type of the file system is RAW. CHKDSK is not available for RAW drives."
